Dear Friend,

The future is only as bright as the education we give to our children and the strength of the foundations we build today.  In 2002, The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College increased the number of graduates in every academic segment: certificate, associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree, and in workforce training and continuing education.  This spring, our enrollment grew to over 10,000 students.  UTB/TSC is here to help this generation of ambitious minds become tomorrow’s educators, engineers, industrialists, and medical providers who will be our next civic, political and spiritual leaders.

The President’s Circle Annual Fund supports students, faculty, and programs for which state funding is either inadequate or non-existent.  These funds allow students and faculty to take advantage of unique opportunities for personal and professional development they would otherwise miss.  The President’s Circle Fund is often the only available support for our students and their faculty.  Here are a few of the accomplishments achieved by students and faculty that may not have been possible without the President’s Circle Fund:

  • Dr. Manuel Medrano with several students traveled to Austin to testify before the Texas State Board of Education about the need to correct written Texas history.  Texas has a rich multi cultural history formed by all its people that for too many years has not been understood because it was not available to learn.  The State Board of Education agreed.

  • The newly formed UTB/TSC Chess Team competed at the prestigious Texas State Chess Tournament placing third, not bad for their first year.  UT-Dallas took first place and Texas A&M placed second.

  • Students Julie A. Pedraza and Mario Guajardo were able to present their grant project research work at the National Science Foundation–Advanced Technological Education (NDF-ATE) Conference in Washington, DC.  Their presentations could very well be the gateway to future grants awarded to The College of Science, Mathematics & Technology.

Our students and faculty are accomplishing great things, laying a solid foundation for the next generation to build on.  As Chairman of the Development Board at the University of Texas at Brownsville, I ask that you join us in helping them build a future we can all be proud of.  Your investment now will yield wonderful returns for all of us in the future.  Every donation builds today for a greater tomorrow!

Thank you,

Rosemary Breedlove, Chairman
UTB/TSC Development Board
