Educational Technology M.Ed. Program
In the local on-line M.Ed. program, most of the instruction will be Web-based, but locally offered classes require students to use campus facilities including interactive video sessions approximately 25% of the class time. Students will use the laboratory facilities for the development of class projects and focus those projects on educational issues that pertain directly to the Lower Rio Grande Valley region. This course provides a history and overview of the field. Demonstrations of technologies in different educational settings are explored. Practical and theoretical means for ascertaining the needs of learners, implementations of specific technologies to meet those needs, and assessment of effectiveness of those technologies in meeting learner’s needs are presented.

This course uses a standard model for designing instruction to guide the student in systematically developing an instructional unit. Theoretical and practical issues in designing effective instruction are examined. Alternative models of instructional design are presented.

Multimedia/Hypermedia • EDTC 6323.60 • Star # 0240
This course looks at pertinent issues in the development of web-based, or web-augmented multimedia for instructional purposes. Participants will develop interactive products to meet specific instructional objectives, field test their product, and assess its effectiveness.

Selected Topics in Educational Technology • EDTC 6329.60 • Star # 0301
Topic for the Fall of 1999 semester is Uses and Development of Instructional Media. From idea to VHS (or DVD) down the digital highway, learn how to design and develop powerful and fun videos with an instructional twist to them.

Internship in Educational Technology • EDTC 6332.60 • Star # 0271
Supervised observation and practice in the applications of technology to a specified educational setting are emphasized. This is a field-based educational technology course offering.

Special Education M.Ed. Programs

Psychology of the Exceptional Child • SPED 6301 • Star # 0249
This course will discuss methods for understanding children with exceptional differences. The course will survey the teaching/learning process of special populations. Characteristics of various exceptionalities with strategies which enhance student learning are an integral part of the course.

Videoconferencing Courses via UTB/TSC Distance Education Network for High School Students
These Videoconferencing Distance Learning Courses are transmitted via fully Interactive Videoconference between UT-Brownsville and RGV High Schools that are part of the UTB Distance Learning Network. High School students at remote sites can interact with the professor and students at UT-Brownsville via video and audio. There will be an additional $10 per credit hour Distance Learning fee for the remote students. This fee will be included in their fee bill. Both rooms are equipped with video cameras, monitors, and microphones to transmit and receive live video. UTB College students enrolled for this class will take a regular class in one of UTB’s videoconferencing rooms in Tandy Hall Building.

An introduction to the elements of music. Includes study of music reading in various clefs, notation, rhythm, time signatures and meters, scales and modes, key signatures, intervals, and chords. Designed for non-music majors, but may also be taken (as a prerequisite to MUSI 1311) by majors or minors with no previous experience.

Intervals, scales, chord structures, chord progressions, simple cadences, use of inversions, non harmonic tones, seventh chords, simple modulations and harmonization of melodies, part-writing, music reading, keyboard skills aural rhythmic, melodic and harmonic dictation are studied.


UT-Telecampus Distance Education Offerings

DE Courses for Students Attending Through the UT-TeleCampus
Note: First year on-line courses offered through the UT-Telecampus will include a $25.00 per credit hour Distance Education fee paid to UT Brownsville. MBA on-line and Educational Technology M.Ed. courses offered through the UT-Telecampus will include a $230.00 per course Distance Education fee paid to UT Brownsville. This fee will be included in your fee bill. Additionally, there will be an $80 access charge paid directly to UOL VCampus. The UOL VCampus is the company that houses and maintains the UT TeleCampus and the courses within it. The UOL charge covers maintenance and backup of the online courses, security of student access and the interactive components of the courses.

Courses for Fall 99 will be open for registration beginning August 5. By paying your $80 access charge to UOL, you will be reserving your seat in the course. You must still follow registration procedures with UT Brownsville in order to receive credit for the course. When you register for the course in the TeleCampus, you will notice a start date. You will be able to view your course beginning on that date.
