After an extensive search that began last spring, Rosemary R. Martinez has been named Vice President for Business Affairs at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.

UTB/TSC President Dr. Juliet V. García expressed her confidence in the University's newest vice president.  “Rosemary brings valuable private and public sector experience to this work, coupled with an energetic commitment to refining processes and improving efficiency. I look forward to the university benefiting greatly from this appointment.”

Martinez joined the university in 1997 as Budget Director and Controller. Since 1999, she has also served as Interim Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs.

“I am very excited and looking forward to the challenges that I will be facing,” Martinez said. “I believe my years of experience have prepared me well for this new position.”

In 1994, Mrs. Martinez moved to the private sector and assumed the duties of Business Manager with TCI Tele-Communications, Inc.

Martinez has also been an active member of the community. She is a member of the Brownsville Citizens Advisory Committee and a past board member of the United Way of Southern Cameron County, the Boys and Girls Club of Brownsville, and the Good Neighbor Settlement House.  Martinez has also lent her considerable talents to a number of community projects by participating in the Feast of Sharing, United Way's “Day of Caring,” Boo at the Zoo and relief efforts for Matamoros orphanages. In 1999, she was selected as one of 30 “Women who make a Difference” and featured in a special exhibition by local photographer, Greg Phelps.

In 1995, she was appointed by Governor George W. Bush to represent South Texas for a three-year term on the Texas Commission for Volunteerism and Community Service.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Foundation for Volunteerism and Community Service.
