2003 CASE U.S. Professor of the Year Award February 2003 2003 Chancellor's Council Outstanding Teaching Award (Nominations Due February 5) January 2003 The Higher Education Plan of Texas: Closing the Gaps June 2002 Assessment of General Education Based upon this assessment and an inventory of the syllabi
of all general education courses, we have begun to revise our courses syllabi
to reflect the emphases that we have determined we must make: Our plan is to sample sections of all courses in the general education program by collecting student writing from all students in those sections, to require faculty to specify the criteria they expect of students in writing within their diciplines, and to train faculty to conduct assessment of student writing across the disciplines. We will then have the faculty trained to evaluate our students' writing conduct an assessment of the student products. We will assess the other competencies in general education through a varied set of procedures: report from capstone seminars as part of our continuing assessments of the majors, student surveys, portfolios of student products, faculty surveys, and inventories of syllabi and course materials. 1 September 2000
