 Symbolism of the Diamond:

The Diamond is a highly valued precious stone.  It represents near perfection and fine quality.  Diamonds represent endurance of time.  As UTB and TSC celebrate their anniversary, it is fitting that we pause to recognize individuals whose contributions to our efforts have been intrinsically valuable and have been significant during the growth of UTB and TSC and for that reason they are considered “Diamonds Among Us.” 

Eligibility for Nomination:

To be nominated, the individual must have contributed to the development and growth of higher education and to The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.   The individual should be an acknowledged friend and supporter whose legacy and effort has had significant impact.  The candidate can be living or deceased.

Specific Criteria for Selection

·     The nominee will have made significant contribution to the growth of UTB/TSC between the years of 1926 and 2006 with specific emphasizes between the years 1991 and 2006

·     Contributions could include having significantly established, improved, or expanded services, programs, accessibility, employment, training or other such opportunities for the people of the UTB/TSC region

·     The nominee should have demonstrated by their exemplary role in advocacy, program, development, governance or community service their association and commitment to higher education and to UTB/TSC.

Selection Process:

The selection process begins with a nominating committee whose membership is composed of community members, faculty, staff, and administrators.  This committee considers the nominations and upon review of criteria forwards their recommendations to the President of UTB/TSC for final consideration and approval.
